Lily Walden-Givens and Jennifer Campbell will provide us with an overview of the administrative process and a discussion of the issues that frequently arise when marshalling, administering, and distributing real property, as well as selected issues in California real property tax.

Lilian Walden Givens’ practice focuses on representing beneficiaries and fiduciaries in contested trust and probate matters. She has experience litigating trust contests, disputes over the interpretation of testamentary instruments, breach of trust cases, accounting disputes, as well as elder abuse actions. Lilian also handles a broad range of guardianship and conservatorship matters and is adept at navigating both the complex procedural and interpersonal aspects of such proceedings.

Lilian’s practice extends across all stages of litigation, from advising on pre-litigation matters, to discovery, law and motion, trial preparation, and trial. Her ability to carefully navigate sensitive matters within her practice allows her to form personable connections with her clients. Lilian believes that establishing meaningful connections with her clients is an important step in gaining a full understanding and appreciation of the clients’ goals. With this knowledge in hand, Lilian is able to think creatively about solutions to help reach those goals.

In addition to her litigation practice, Lilian advises clients on a range of administrative matters. She is well versed in probate estate administration and takes special care in advising and assisting clients serving as personal representatives in decedent’s estates. Lilian also handles a variety of trust administration issues, including trust reformations, modifications, accountings and other non-contested matters.

Lilian takes pride in maintaining a strong pro bono practice and has provided guidance on a number of cases with the Alliance for Children’s Rights, including advocating for children with special education needs to ensure they are provided adequate support and resources in the classroom, as well as participating in adoption day programs. She has also worked on numerous immigration matters, including asylum cases and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status petitions.

Jennifer Campbell, Partner at Karlin & Peebles, LLP, focuses her practice on estate planning and trust and estate administration. She assists clients in drafting estate plans, advising fiduciaries in the administration of trusts and estates, addressing fiduciary legal risks, advising fiduciaries about trust funding and distributions, preparing estate and gift tax returns, negotiating and drafting settlement agreements, and drafting legal pleadings and orders. She emphasizes deep personal relationships, allowing her to understand and meet her clients’ specific objectives. Jennifer's practice is enhanced by her extensive experience in both law firms and the legal departments of financial institutions.

Prerequisites and Program Content:
There are no prerequisite education or prior experience needed for any of STEP Orange County’s meetings or events. All sponsored events are relevant learning objectives to assist in the continuing education for MCLE and CPE. All levels are encouraged to participate and all participants will take away knowledge regarding the subject matter. There is also no advanced preparation needed for any of the meetings or events.The field of study for this program is Taxes and will be delivered by Group Live & Group Internet Based.

STEP Orange County is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE Credit.
